Anastasiia
Anastasiia came to life as a tiny pencil sketch as one of three wild horses standing on a ridge. Pictured with wind blowing through mane and tail she watched the viewer. From this delicate pencil sketch the shapes were defined as loose color fields with flowing lines. These part outlines were then transferred to wood, and the parts strung on long soft nylon cord to give body to the horse. The connections are subtle and the whole design remains light and floating in space.
The original wood art
The height of the original horse is 48” with a width of 18 1/2”. With
inclusion of the sky and earth present an entire height of 75” and width of 41”.The animated movie captures the complete art perfectly.
About the name
The name “Anastasiia” is associated with vivacious and bold action. This is due to the legendary Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna, youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholas II. Despite dire circumstances of her 1918 execution at age 17, she is remembered for being playfully daring and free.
